Hi! First off I have to say that I am a girl and know pretty close to nothing about the mechanics of cars, but I've drove enough clunckers to know the basics. I've been reading your posts alot lately.
Anyway here is the problem, my 94 Jeep Grand Cherokee stalls whenever I come to a stop. I have had the carb cleaned and the IAC motor replaced. I had absolutely no problems for two weeks then it slowly started stalling here and there, now it is doing it all the time. Also, I don't know if the two are connected but it seems my gas guage is alittle off, shows lower amount but only when more than half a tank full.
I have recently been putting alot of money into this (but I bought it for dirt cheap and not ready to give it up yet)
I have a friend who is a mechanic so I take my car to him (been screwed by other local mechanics) but I'm maybe doubting his knowledge a little bit.
Any suggestions?

It sounds like your idle/air control might be bad or is stuck open, causing the Jeep to run too lean (not enough gas going to the engine) and making your Jeep stall out every time you come to a start. It is a relatively cheap part and I would look into checking that out first. Also, what size motor do you have: 4.0L or 5.2L?

Also have you had your fuel pump and fuel filter looked at? You could have a possibly clogged fuel filter and once you come to a stop the engine starves and stalls out since the fuel pressure is low due to the bad filter. Does the engine putter a little before it stalls or does it just stall right out immediately?

Jeeps are notorious for their sending units going bad too (which tells you how much gas you have left in the tank). For example, on my 98, my gauge is off by 1/8 of a tank. So say I have 1/4 of a tank left on the gauge, I actually have somewhere between 1/4 and a half.

Thats all I can think of right now. Hopefully more people can add their opinions. Let me know how you make out.

Does it ever stall while driving? If it stalls while idling and while driving, it could be the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CPS). On my '94 Jeep GC I had stalling mostly when stopping. I could immediately start it up again and it would work fine. Occasionally it would also die while driving and I'd do the same thing (shift to Neutral, start it up again, put back into gear). It ended up being the CPS. There are a lot of postings about the CPS (if you search for CPS you can see if the symptoms are the same as what you are experiencing).

Let us know what you find - also let us know your answers to the questions that SREILLY mentioned in the prior posting.
