I have a '99 2.2L 2WD. My truck is in need of new lifters as it is making a horrible clanking noise. I was pretty sure this was the issue, and I had it confirmed at a shop. However, they want almost $1000 to fix it. I think I can fix it, it will just take some time.
Has anybody done this themselves before? How do I go about it? Apparently with this engine the lifters come out through the bottom. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

I have noticed a drop in oil pressure. The pressure used to be around 75-78 for the first 10-15 miles. Now the pressure only hits 60 if the RPM's are high. Is there maybe another problem?

your oil pressure of 60 psi after 5min of engine cold start is normal... 80 psi is only when the engine is very cold... are you using 10-30wt....also are you sure the engine has the correct oil filter and who makes it..did you replace lifter/s?

Have not installed new lifters yet. Its making quite a racket. Loud metallic banging.
The oil and filter are correct.
