I just bought an 07 Aveo hatchback with a bent in left rear door. No airbags or seatbelts had deployed.
When I start the car the airbag light comes on then off then back on continuous. Dealer says no codes come up on OBDII and charged $80.00 (Not covered by warranty due to damage) and said to replace the door and come back and plug it up again. Door has been replaced but light still comes on. Can this airbag system be reset? I don't understand why no codes scanned when plugged into the OBDII while the airbag light was on. I just can't afford to many of these $80.00 dealer visits. Any help would be appreciated

um if you just bought it from that dealership then it should be covered under a warranty. at least a thirty days warranty. cus that shit should not be happening like that, it should be sold to you in safe and working order, and that my friend is a safety hazard. if you get into an accident and your airbags do not deploy because of this light, u can have yourself a lawsuit, assuming of course that you live. not trying to sound creepy or anything, just sayin.

Sorry for not being clear with the facts.
I bought the car from an individual not a dealer. It had a damaged door when I bought it. I took it to a Chevy dealer because they are supposed to be able to diagnose problems with the OBDII thing. They basicly charged me $80.00 to tell me they didn't know what the problem with the airbag system was. No way can I afford to let them start throwing parts at this thing with their rates. I was hoping someone ere might have some input.

On most vehicles, the airbag light should come on for @6 seconds, and then go off if the system is working properly. If there is a fault or a problem in the system, the light will remain illuminated, or flash continuously. If the airbag light does not work properly, some vehicles have an audible tone that sounds indicating a problem with the airbag light system. When the light is on (or the tone is sounding), the airbag will NOT deploy, even in an accident. Most systems can only be diagnosed using a scanner designed for the airbag system, however some use flash codes to indicate the problem. The scanners at Auto Zone or the ones that sell for @ $50 will not access the airbag system, only the engine systems (check engine light).
This website gives you the procedure for diagnosing and resetting some systems without a scanner. Some vehicle manufacturers accommodate that (like Toyota, Lexus, Nissan, Infinity, Honda, Acura, Ford, Lincoln, Mazda & Mercury) and some require a scan tool. http://www.airbagsolutions.com/

Unless the system was deployed previously and not repaired thoroughly, the lite should be off, I do not think the side curtins will deploy with a moderate damage to the door, plus if the lite is on there must be stored or present codes in the Derm. Try another dealer.

Right after I got mine someone could sit in the passenger's sit and it would not go out the only way was to completely shut the car off and turn back on. I took it to the dealer and they claimed nothing was wrong with it.
