i have a 94 jeep with the 2.5 engine. when it is cold it will not start. i turn the key on and the fuel pump relay and the start relay just keep cycling on and off. it does this for approimately 5 minutes. then the relays will slow down cycling and then stop. when they stop cycling then you can start the jeep. it will start fine until it gets cold again, then the relays start cycling again. i have replace the fuel pump and filter. the fuel pressure is at 31 psi when you do get it running. i have cleaned all the electrical connections and tried replacing the relays. to no avail the problem still exist. once in awhile the jeep will just quit and the it is a tow job. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks pies

Are you getting any codes? You may want to take it to an auto parts store so they can put the scanner on it....most places if they have it will do it for free.

forget codes with an obvious problem like that.

The fuel pump relay is triggered by the computer. Don't know what you mean by a "start relay"? I think the Jeeps have a ASD relay, maybe that's what you're talking about. I forgot what it stands for, but it is triggered by the computer also.

So you need to see if there is possibly a bad connection between the ECM and the relays. Considering that the vehicle runs fine after the clicking issues, it's probably not a bad connection. The vehicle would likely be stalling.

The computer grounds both of those relays. Make sure that the problem actually is the computer erratically grounding them and not a bad connection. Then you'll have to check your power inputs and grounds to the computer. If powers and grounds are good, and the computer is erratically triggering the relays on and off when you switch on the key, you need a new computer.
