Assistance Needed (Heating)

I searched and created a checklist to follow. The symptoms were car would not go past 1/4 mark on dash gauge, no heat, some fogging on inside windshield, ice cold lower radiator hose. The car is a 1992 Cavalier 2.2. Dad had engine replaced last summer, sister who drives it stated no heat all winter (lol, not my car so no hurry to fix).

I warmed up the car and checked lower/upper radiator hose. Found lower hose to be ice cold, replaced the 195 Tstat mechanic had in with a 185. (From searching the site, consensus seemed to indicate a 185 was needed.) While there, replaced the fan/coolant temp switch on the thermostat housing. Put car on ramps and let it idle with blower speed in the middle and heat all the way to the warm side. Lots of air burped out. Ran this for about 20-30 minutes, put cap on (new), and drove. I could feel some heat but then it went cold. It would not go past the 1/4 mark on the gauge. Dad and I are planning on going into the center console/dash removal to get at the control center and replacing the blower switch and the temperature cable that runs across. When we put the controls in we seem to think we may have switched a hose or have a vac leak since it seems to not blow on the windshield when defroster is selected and very little blowing through the vents when that is selected. The blower motor is operable as it switches on/off and is quite loud. Could I have gotten a faulty t-stat? Was thinking about replacing the other coolant sensor but couldn't find where that was at since its not in the thermostat housing like the fan/temp switch. Any help/suggestions? BTW below is the checklist I created from searching and what I found.


Warm up. Check U/L hoses. Hot? Yes
Does air blow out all vents? Yes but seems to be confused and come out the defrost and panel vents at same time. May indicate vac leak.
Check heater core hoses. Are they hot or cold? Hot VERY. Indicates coolant is flowing into the core and then back out.
Is the waterpump good and not weeping? Did not seem no visible leaking or anything from weep hole.
Is overflow full above hot mark and clear? Yes.
Is radiator cap new? Yes
Run car with rad cap off and on an incline to burp air from system. Affirmative lots of air burped out.
Check coolant temp sensor/fan switch. Replaced temp switch/fan switch, couldnt locate other coolant temp sensor.
Check blower motor/fuses. Didnt do this due to hearing it click on/off.
