anyone know the performance gap b/w Diablovs 2000

Does anyone know the performace gap between a 5.7 Diablo and a Honda S2000 to say 120 KM/H?
I happened to race one the other day (unwillingly as even if I won it, it would mean nothing as the hp difference would be so big).
But I was surprised at the huge gap.
I have always heard that the S2000 is free revving and has at standard 240 hp and handles well so in motion there should not be a big gap.
What happened occured last Saturday, with this S2000 (driven with his girlfriend in it had blocking my way for a about 6 kms before we got to a 2 lane road). He was constantly slowing down only to acclerate hard again from me as if he was trying to prove something. And by the time I got to a 2 lane road I could hear him acclerate again, only this time I pushed hard from 2nd gear to 3rd. And by the time I was in 3rd. gear at about 110-120 km/h (could'nt read it properly as I have one of those spedos with both km/h and mph on the dial making it confusing) he was about 10 car lengths behind me.
Is my Diablo really that much quicker or did he give up half way ?

I would have to say that yes your diablo is that much quicker.:flash:

The S2000 is indeed a nice car, but we are talking worlds apart in terms of performance.

On the other hand I never ridden in either so what the hell do I know. :)

S2000 is powerful but compared to a 5.7 litre Lambo, it's a HUGE difference. S2000 sprint to 100km/hr in about 6 seconds. Your sprint is about 4 seconds? A 1-second difference already means a lot.

Before he reach 80km/hr, you could have got to 120km/hr. Moreover, high cc cars accelerate faster on high speed compared to lower cc cars.

Are you kidding? You should be able to leave a S2000 as though it had slammed on the brakes and thrown it in reverse!

If you were pushing hard I gotta say its MPH not KPH, cuz you can do 60 mph (100 kph) in 1st gear, plus you said you were hard reving from 2nd to 3rd, so must be ALOT faster. My guess is you smoked him and he gave up, whats the chance of a S2000 catching a Diablo? :flash: :sun: :smoker: :smoker2: Nice kill for the Diablo!!! lol...

well i must admit that it did feel good trumping him
a bit of a snobby ego trip i guess
but if it was not his attitude i would not have normally done something like that
and a good thing that my son was not in the car with me otherwise i would not have been able to play hard

:flamer: S2000:rocket: What a waste of money. Diablo kills it. Think about this for a minute. How bad would it be to hear the sound of a rice burner passing you with his coffee can exhaust 6cylinder.:hehehe: Geezz do those Hondas get on my last nerve, the only Honda I can accept is the NSX.

Hey fellas I have an S2000 in my car collection and it's not as bad as some may think but it's no ordinary S2000 as it puts out almost 340 hp with the Comptech set up and it shifts buttery smooth, I can shift through the gears without using the clutch. But it is no comparison in the brute torque of my Diablo but for a little car it's fun to drive and will beat my Diablo or any Diablo in autocrossing due to it's weight and handling. The one thing I dislike about the Diablo is that it is not as nimble as some of my cars I have but as far as the ultimate exotic for the money, it cannot be beat in my own opinion.

with 340 hp it certainly will give the Diablo a hard time.
But how ridgid is the car? Can it handle 340 horses?
Have you made mods to stiffen it up?

I think the one I raced just a some exhaust mods.
I think its bark is worse than its bite.

The S2000 is not a bad car. As fars as I have seen they are vey fun to drive especially if you do invest in the aftermarket such as comptech and mugen. They are pretty light and nimble and can be improved dramatically. Now as far as it being better than a Lambo, nah . . .:D :D

JUST AN FYI....THE S2000 ISN'T AN 6 CYLINDER...IT'S AN INLINE 4 CYLINDER ;)

Hey Eric, the S2k can easily handle the 340HP, in fact I wish it had another 200 horses to it for brute power but still with the 340hp. the Diablo still smokes it on a roll but the S2k will smoke the Diablo on the twistie turns.

That's what I orginially put and then thought it was a 6 for some reason and changed it, I shoulda left it. But the car still sucks, IMO.

I agree that the S2000 is quick around twisties.
But I guess with a standard or only slightly modified S2000 the Diablo would still have the edge on the tight corners.
I mean I was able to stick to the guys tail around the twisties without any diffifulty.

I agree with Eric, the S2000 will probably carry greater corner speed in the twisty bits, but I think the torque of the Diablo would make up the distance and the extra weight that it carries.

Nice thing you did with that Honda. I bet his girlfriend broke up with him.

according to evo magazine the S2000 has the following performace;

0-60 mph 5.5 s
0-100 mph 14.6 s

i think my diablo does 0-60 in 4 s but i am not sure of the 0-100 time

Thanks for all your comments, I use the car most of the time as a daily driver and believe it or not it's more fun to toss around than the Diablo and it's much better on gas too as opposed to watching the gas meter go down as you drive the Diablo and it's a pain in the ass to fill the tank everytime I have to fill it up because you have to hold the nozzle at a certain angle and only certain gas stations it pumps well.

modman, do you have problem estimating the front end of the S2000 when you are parking? It's very long, isn't it?

modman
03-08-2003, 11:07 PM
The front is long for a Honda but it's not any different from any car I've driven in the past, the CL Benz has a long front so no big deal, you get used to it.
