2000 astro power window problem

it will roll down but when i go to roll it up it goes about 3 inches then you have to wait about 15 minutes then 3 inches again seems to be gettign worse any ideas

The driver side window switch has the "Express Down" feature. When pushing the switch to lower the window for .5 seconds or longer, the window will automatically go all the way down. When the window reaches the bottom, amperage draw increases and pops the circuit breaker in the window switch. Several things can cause increased resistance while raising the window also, here are a few things to check: Worn bushings in the window motor, worn brushes in the window motor, binding window regulator linkage, glass binding in the tracks, and poor electrical connections, or it may just be a weak circuit breaker in the switch. If there's a problem with any one or more of these things, the circuit breaker will pop while raising the window. The circuit breaker is self-resetting and requires anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes to reset.

Mine did the exact same thing...In fact, my buick did it as well. Just get a new window regulator (power window motor assembly). Replacement isn't difficult, just have tp drill off the heads of the aluminum studs that hold the origional motor on.

I "C" clamped the track before I removed the actual motor, as the track is spring-loaded, and can be sprung causing injury.

Most auto parts sell the new window motors for around $60 or so.

Funny, I have the exact same problem on my 2000 Astrovan, the passenger window will sometimes not roll up all the way and then you wait 5 to 15 minutes and it goes up. I would tend to agree with the statement about the cirucuit breaker. I'm planning to tear the door apart and take the motor out and either clean the brushes or just put a new motor on. They are available at Autozone for around $60 plus or minus, not a big deal, more annoyance than anything else, but it must be a common defect to the motor or the regulator in that model. Thanks.

Thanks for the tip. I replaced the motor and that took care of it. I got a new motor at Autozone for $60, drilled out the rivets and it came with replacement screws and had it done in no time, it works like new, I guess the factory motors are cheap these days, my van is only 7 years old, not old by any stretch and that's the passenger side, which is used less than driver's. Oh well, that's easy, now I have to figure out why my plastic radiator is leaking on this critter. If not one thing, it's another.
