i just purchassed a 99 caravan with the 3.0 V6 . it has 175,000 kilometres on it. when it idles it sounds fine but when you rev it up a little it sounds like it is ticking a little. someone told me that these vans are all like that, this is only my second dodge. it was purchassed from an insurance company, it was written-off and repaired. maybe it sat for a long time and that is why it is ticking. im going to change the oil and put some sort of additive in the oil. if any of you know about the 3.0 liter please tell me if this noise is common. thanks:sunglasse

Yes that is a common side effect on the 3.0 specially on high mileage engines . It is lifter tick .You could try a different brand oil filter and if its not too cold in your area go to 10w-30 instead of 5w-30 . this seemed to help our 96 . Synthetics will make it worse . Also some people swear by a product called Auto-RX . You might want to go thru a treatment of that , have heard of this curing this completely in some cases . any way go to their website and decide for yourself . Also if you don't know how many miles you have on the timing belt you might want to change that if you plan on keeping it , this can be a pretty expensive repair though so be prepared , never been a fan of belts over chains...

thanks for the info, changed the oil today and put some STP in oil, sounds very good now. there is a sticker in the engine compartment that shows that the timing belt was changed about 20,000 km ago . if this is true then i should be ok. thanks again:)
