93 4wd auto v6 3.0 Oil A/T temp light

I just purchased a 93 4wd 3.0 v6 auto with 90k. The first time I took it on the FWY after driving for about 30 mins the oil a/t hi temp light came on. It seemed to be shifting ok but that was the first time I actually drove it so I didn't know about the performance. The oil pressure seemed a little low, temp was at mid point. When I pulled off the fwy I noticed smoke coming from under the hood. The fluid levels seemed ok so I let it sit for while and the light cleared. When I parked the vehicle I noticed a large ATF spot then looked underneath and there was fluid everywhere. I'm guessing I need to locate the leak before I think about changing the filter and fluid. Where should I start looking? Thanks

Start by looking around the tranny pan, then the cooling lines to the radiator.
