Engine swap

I have a 92 metro with a great engine and a manual transmission. Problem is that the doors and windows and everything else don't work so well. So my friend got me a 93 metro with an bad engine automatic transmission but the body and everything else is in good working order. I had just assumed since that the engines were the same , both 1.0 L 3cyl., that I could just interchange them. Well right in the middle of it all I notice that the crankshaft mount for the flexplate\flywheel is slightly different. The bolt pattern is the same and I am ASSUMING again that it might work, but I would like to make sure. Any help would be great. I am mechanically inclined and have experiance at R/R things but am not a mechanic.

P.S. This is my first time on a fourm let alone starting a "thread" so help there would also be helpful

on the automatic engines there is a 1/4" thick spacer plate between the flexplate and the crankshaft. it just pops off with a screwdriver, if you have a automatic you need to put that plate there. if you have a manual you need to remove it

Thansk a lot for the info! I've been :banghead: trying to figure this one out. I ended up calling a mecanic I use every once and awhile. He told me " yea the engines aren't interchangeable, I learned that back in when I was working in yada yada yada" so he told me he could switch out the crankshafts for me for a 100 bucks. I trusted the guy ! he has all these certificate and diplomas Master mechanic and all. so I droped off the engines to him Monday. Good thing he called me yesterday to tell me that the crank in the automatic was bad and he did not switch them. This aughta be fun. What do you guys think? should I see if it was an honest mistake then give him 20 for the trouble. Or just get my engines and go.
