Wiring?

Check the wiring real good where the tail gate hinges.
They sometimes break there.

Mine went through a rash of that...I tried the button and the key and after giving up it just opened up by key one day so I stopped what I was doing and sprayed the latch with spray grease and worked it a few times with the key and the button.(????)

hatch does open with key - now i find out there is a hatch release relay associated with the elctrical button release circuit but no idea where that animal is. None of the auto manuals mention it and how does this tie into the keyless entry circuit. I dont have a clicker for the keyless option but that button release is so convenient.

Thre is a door lock relay near fuse box.
The hatch lock release is controled by the keyless entery reciever decoder control module.
For a wiring diagram you may have to go a factory manual.
Sometimes a dealer will copy off the wiring for you.

Have you looked at /by the hatch release motor /solenoid for the relay in there.
Also check the rear hatch wiring where it hinges real good.
