96 firebird bogs down

have a 96 v6 firebird when you start it the check engine light go's on and then you put it in gear and hit the gas and it acts like its in second gear and has a gurgle sound out of the exauhst not normal at all any one got any idea's?

Check for codes. Some of the national brand autostores will check codes for free.

If the problem is associated with the throttle, I usually check the signal from the TPS, first.

Sounds like a clogged exhaust (catalytic converter)
