I have a 4x4, 4dr GMC Jimmy. About 1 1/2 years ago had a used tranny put in. Afterwords at 1000 rpm's it would keep jumping from 1st to 2nd to 1st gear. Yesterday my brother in law was driving it and said it wasn't shifting into higher gears so he pulled it over. When we checked it, it went into R, 1, and 2, so I was going to drive it home. When I got a few feet it slipped out, then, eventually, no gears would work. There were no noises (metal, clanking, etc), the fluid level was good. Any suggestions? Someone said filter could be blocked. It's at a garage now.
Thanks for any help!!

The filter could be a problem, it can happen. It could be clogged, or it could have fallen down/out and causing a fluid loss. The best thing for this is to tap the main line pressure port with a guage and see what your getting pressure wise. A trans scanner may also be another good idea, that will give you an idea of whats going on electrically. It sounds like you may have lost oil pressure within the tranny and you have to find where thats happening at.
That would be my guess at this point.

Well, the garage called and said the tranny is DONE. Metal fragments were in the filter and the fliud was not pretty. If anyone knows someone near Philly who wants to rebuild or replace my transmission, let me know. The garage wants $1800 for a rebuild. That's too much in my eyes.
Thanks

That is a good price for a good quality rebuilt transmission.
You can find cheaper ones or 90 day wonders or take your chances on another used one.
But a good quality rebuild is going to cost you.
Price out a GM factory rebuilt transmission.:grinyes:
