I have a 1999 mystique that ran fine at 6:00 in the morning, then at 10:00 it wouldnt sart. It is getting fire, its getting fuel and compression. so i pulled the timing cover and found that the cams werent turning, but the the timing belt is tight and appears to be ok. what could be wrong to make this happen? the engines itself turns over fine but the timing belt isnt turning.

Sounds like your belt got the teeth rounded off on the crank...so crankshaft turns but since no teeth on the belt down there its just spinning without getting any purchase on the belt.

Had the same problem on a 1989 ford ranger once.

Align your camshaft and crank as per engine manual. Usually marks on crank and camshaft which makes it easier.
