Morning Warmup

I'm new to this forum and a first time owner to a BMW. I purchased a second hand 93 BMW 325i.

Question: how long does it take to warm-up in the morning. I warm up in the morning and find that there is still white smoke coming out of the muffler. (longer time than my other car)

I'm just worried that I purchase a lemon BMW with a blown head gasket

thanks
Vic..

How cold is it where you're at?

I warmed mine up today, and my engine was blowing out white exhaust smoke even past the blue range into the normal for about ten minutes. But it was about 30 degrees and humid, with all sorts of ice that had gotten into the exhaust system.

It only does that when it's cold, though.

That white smoke is water vapor condensing when it hits the cold air. Every car does it when its cold. There's nothing wrong with your car.

Letting your car idle more than 30 seconds to a minute for warm-up is a waste of fuel and wear on the car. The best way to warm a car up is to drive it (gently for the 1st few minutes).

I ride on the highway for one hour, and as I wait at the exit ramp light after exiting the highway, white vapor comes out, even after one hour of driving! :smoker: So don't worry! As long as you are not missing antifreeze you are OK!

it is just the water vapor in you car. when the smoke stops the moisture has evaportated
