alternater queston for you

I purchased a 74 beetle, it has a Bosch alternater with a external regulater. there are 4 wires coming out of the regulater (mounted under the back seat, driver's side) The wires are going to the engine compartment. I can understand that the b+ is on the larger post and there is a d+ connecter on th alternater. Here is the sticking point the Bently publications mention a multiple connecter on the alternater. This alternater has no such animal. lt only has two connection points (B+ and D+)where do the other wires go that are just hanging loose. What and how many wires are connected on the alternater with an internal REGULATER?
if anyone out there can shed a light on this, please do.

Thanx in advance----bobmack

It is definately an alternator(bosch). It has a larger post that holds the B+ wire with a small nut, the D+ wire is smaller and connects via a female connector that just pushes on.The regulator is made by motorola and has a red, green, brown, and blue wire coming out of it.These wires are designated d+, df, d- and no designation on the 4th.These wires are short, going into a connecter that in turn that goes to the engine compartment. As I stated in my earlier post, the D+ goes to the smaller spade connector on the alternator along with a larger wire from the Batt that goes to the B+ post. It's the two wires (DF and D-) that are just hanging there that has me stuck.

You can check Speedy Jim's Web Page. He's an absolute genius when it comes the VW electrics.
