Hi guys, I got a little problem with my Jimmy.
I live in quebec and it can get quite cold .. and my Jimmy doesn't start. If i plug it for an hour or so it then starts.

Plug it in? I assume you mean plug in a block heater.
Does it turn over? If its turning over I'd check to see if the choke is set.

How cold?
What weight oil?
Does the battery turn the starter/engine good?
How is the tune up end ?
Plugs and filters and wires?

It does turn .. from what we have been able to see .. no fire is happening neither fuel injection

Oil is as dircted 10w30
The battery as just been replaced. It's turning quite strong.
Filters/spark plugs have been replaced. Pickup coil + module as been changed in the distributor. We also just changed the coolant sensor.
From what we can see there s no fire and no fuel injection.
When we plug t (block heater) after about 1 hour it starts as if there was nothing wrong.

How cold in degrees is the cold there?
If the engine is turning it should fire hot or cold.
It has to fire before injectors will squirt.
Recheck the dist module and pick up coil.
A weak or bad dist module is sometimes tempt sensitive.
What brand of modiule did you use?
Did you check and set base time on the dist?

We are talking about -5C and below .. over that it will start without any problem.
Stupid question .. when we plug the motor (block heater) then it starts after an hour or so (even if the exterior temp is still quite below) .. there is no way the block heater will get the dist hotter ? Does this rule out the module ?
The brand of the module .. very good question .. I remember it was a green boxe bought from a respectible part shop (not eBay or used)
The dist was correctly timed and it was checked back.
One question .. you stated that if the fire doesn't occur then the fuel injectors will not work ? Is that right ? 'Cause from my part I actualy think of it as the other way .. no fuel = no fire and not no fire = no fuel.
I find that weird that the firing would still occur if there is nothing to ignite .. but then again I'm not a mechanic

You have to have spark and dist reference pulse to triger the injector pulse.
I would go for a GM oem or major brand oem type of dist module.
If you are losing spark at -5C or below you have a secendary ign problem.

Still let's assume the module is good since pluging in the block heater always resolves the problem .. got any suggestion ? Could it be the temp switch or something else ?

The tempt sender to pcm controls the fuel mix.
But you have to have spark and dist reference to get injector pulse.
If you are losing spark you will have to fix the no spark problem.
The block heater warms up the engine and dist and module.
Good luck
