Fuel Pressure Regulator Replace??

Ok, so breif history. 89 s10 4.3 4x4. Recently replaced cat converter and 02 it was bearly running. Bought about 2 years ago, alwasy idled high, occasionally smelled like gas.

After replacing cat. It ran great for about two weeks, then all of a sudden check engine light came on, and it started idleing really rough. Took it to the shop and mechanic noticed that fuel seemed to be dripping out of the injectore as well as spraying. Causing it to run rich, which would have been what would have caused the cat to clog. He suggest that it is the fuel pressure regulator.

Anyways, it seems to be a pretty simple replace, exept in both my shop manuals all it says about the regulator is not to remove the 4 screws because it is under extreme spring tension. So can I replace the diaphram? Any suggestions or hints? Is it pretty straight forward? any ideas? thanks

If fuel is dripping from the injector, it's probably NOT the regulator but rather a stuck or clogged injector.

Ok, So I need to replace the fuel pressure regulator on my 89 4.3 s10
4x4. I got my hands on good condition tbi unit with 1 bad injector.
Out of the two units I want to put together the best unit I can. The
new tbi is a refurbished one, it has been cleaned, painted, new IAC,
TPS, a working fuel pressure regulator. One working injector pod, and
One non-working injector pod. On my old (current) TBI unit, I believe
everything is working properly except for the ruptured fuel pressure
regulator. A few questions

1. Am I better off using the old unit, and just replacing the top
half, fuel meter part, which includes the fuel pressure regulator?
Or am I better off just taking one of the injector pods from the
old unit and installing it in the new unit and using that?

2. Can I mix the injector pods, or are they better off staying in
pairs?

3. While I have it apart is there a way to clean out the injector pods
really good? I think I read some where a way of placing the pod in a
bowl of cleaner and attaching it to a battery to make it pulse. Any
help?

I kind of feel that it is 6 of 1 and Half a Dozen of the other. Either
way I have to disassemble them equally and I have been playing around
with my new unit and its pretty easy to take apart and put back
together. Part of me feels that if it ain't broke don't fix it, and I
should use as many old parts as possible. And the other part feels
that if I have new parts and its all taken apart that I might as well
put the new parts on.

Ok, so if you have been following my thread (thanks by the way i have
received a lot of help). I had a bad fuel regulator on an 89 s10 4.3.
I just replaced the upper part of the TBI unit, the fuel meter part
which includes the regulator. Truck started up great, however it still
idles very rough. I'm fairly certain I solved my problem. Before I
could literally see gas dripping from the injector, kinda like a
shower. Nice spray, but a lot of drips from the head. Now it sprays
nice, and I can barely see the gas.
Idle in park is almost good, it seems a little slow, and after sitting
for a while it starts to stumble a bit.
However idle in drive is very different. If I come to a stop, the idle
slows down a lot and it stumbles really rough. Then it catches itself
for a second, then stumbles again.

I was driving with the bad regulator for about a month. It ran good at
driving speed, but at stop I would have to keep one foot on the gas,
and one on the brake.

So I was wondering if I messed up my O2 sensor from running soo rich
for a month. I just replaced my O2 about 4 months ago.

Or does the computer need to be reset, or just need time to learn the
new fuel mix.

Do I need to adjust anything? IAC?

computer may need to be reset, could be fouled plugs from the excessive fuel.
