Dealer called today and said that the transmission is shot on my wifes car. He did not give me any numbers to fix, so I will assume it needs to be replaced, and would then be worth more than the car. One of the mechanics there offered me $500. I have to say for that I can let it sit in the driveway and sell parts. Am I expecting too much? Or is there a good route to go to make it move again? (used transmission) Or should I go to an actual transmission joint. I guess all in all should I take the offer?

Sorry, no pics yet. There is no overdrive. I will take it to a transmission place today or tomorrow. The first thing the Kennedy guy said are they sure its not a vacuum line or solenoid. Typical dealers want to replace rather than repair.
The car is somewhat of a fixer upper if point a to b in style is your way. Rear drivers side window is permanently up. Front bumper cover is cracked. Temp control knob missing/broken. Control still works. Blower fan only works on high. All are relatively inexpensive repairs/replace except for the trans and the window motor.
If 5 hundo is the going rate...............I will donate it and get the write off. I will keep you updated, and maybe some pics.

There are no vacuum controls on the trans in your car, it's all electronic so that part of his comment is a no-brainer.
Did they scan it and give you any codes? If not, make sure the trans shop does and post them here so we can help you diagnose.
Before you give up on the car, below is a list of what the other problems should cost you to fix:
The blower fan issue is a blower resistor, common issue on these cars, and costs about $25. It's a little cramped to get to, but it takes less than an hour to change yourself.
The blower speed control knob is GM#9363337, and is only $13.44 retail at the dealer.
Dorman makes an aftermarket rear window motor/regulator assembly that should cost about $125-$150 (d/s rear part#741-838, p/s rear part#741-837), compared to $300+ at the dealer for an OEM one, and the most difficult part of the job is getting the interior door panel off.
Did they scan it and give you any codes? If not, make sure the trans shop does and post them here so we can help you diagnose.

If you want to look into a used transmission check out Ed Morad's ebay store. I haven't used him myself, but I only hear good things about him.

It is at Kennedy now. I will know what they find out tomorrow. The dealer will give us a grand for it towards the next vehicle. I am okay with that, I just hate to get low balled right off the bat. I would assume if Kennedy can repair it, we will be able to get more for it. I knew that the other items were fairly inexpensive, just chose to let it be until the temps were warmer like in April or May. I also did not plan on #2 so quickly or this major transmission issue. I will keep all updated as to what Kennedy finds. The dealer's sheet said it was an internal issue, I can not remember the code number.

Most likely will not go this route. But my brother has the same car, he will be very interested. I found a tranny for 450 plus 100 to 150 for shipping. Then it would be a matter of someone to install it.
