I have a 89 Cherokee Pioneer. This poor jeep has been taken apart and put back together a lot (someone's toy). I can start it without a key, by just turning the ignition. Lately i have been having a problem with it not wanting to turn off. I used to be able to turn it forward a little bit then turn it back and it would shut off. Today, I couldn't get it to turn off. I finally took a wire out the distrubutor cap to turn it off. When I put the wire back in the car will start again no problem, but it still won't turn off. I have tired putting the key in it that way... alas nothing worked. Any suggestions?:banghead:

Take apart the ignition and see if it's wired right, maybe get an new ignition switch.

Ignition switch and ignition key cylinder. Replace those and check for any bad wiring right at the ignition switch to make sure none of them are shorted.

lol classic!! That's what I'd do is replace the ignition switch. And trace the wires back and find a short or something. Those vehicles it's rather easy to do.
