first off to everyone in the mustang forum i have to say i'm sorry, i have a 1968 Fairlane 500, there was no place for me. moving on....

Ok. so check it out. my car is a factory 390 car. i upgraded to a 428, have a few bells and whistles too, cobra valves, ported and polished heads, this and that.. will list them all if it becaomes needed. Here is my issue, #1 it cranks hard, i have a high torque mini starter, same as my friend has on his 11.0:1 427 and his works great but mine seems like it starts slow but i can handle it. prob #2 is i cant get the dang thing to catch on the idle, i pump it twice and she fires right up, revs slightly high and then slowly comes down then lopes low and stauls out. I've kicked up the idle, ive tweaked the timing, that just made it even harder to start. i even rebuild the carb and i still have the same issues. i havent been able to drive the car in a few years for dumb reasons so i took it apart and did the drive train upgrade to stay busey. i want to get her out to the local cruises and all that. the carb i am running is a Holley 750 dbl pumper. i could really really use the help guys, thanks to everyone for any little bit of help.

Sounds kinda like your metering block(s) may be bad. I know a guy that went threw the same thing with a 1850 600cfm Holley.

If its not that, where are your idle/air mixture screws set? Are you allowing any fuel at idle? Too much maybe? Is your cam installed correctly? Your rockers set in the correct sequence? What mods have you done to the ol' FE?
