I have a 2003 Jetta wagon with 2.0 engine. It has 57000 miles. I am thinking of using Castrol GTX 5wX30. Has anybody used this and if so what is your advise.

I have a 96 Jetta, and have always used Castrol GTX. I feel it is better than the rest of the oils out there. Prior to using Castrol, I exclusively used Cenpeco oil, which is a parrafin base oil (not sure what that means). The engine made a lot less noise with the cenpeco than others. It is harder to find, since they don't sell it at Autozone. I would also advise using a heavier oil 15W in the summer months, as there will be less "tick tick" from the valves in the early startup. It seems that the thinner weights of oil don't quite cut it in the mornings. my car has 155K on it with no problems, smoke and no engine gunk.
