99 dakota trans slip

my mother has a 99 dakota 8cyl. 2wd. Trans slips mostly when cold. Fluid level is ok and though dirty does not smell burnt. She took it to dealer and they are going to start with a trans service. Waiting to here from them. In my experience(12 year vw tech) dirty fluid will not generally cause a slip unless its so bad that fluid cant get through the filter,a piece of debris is in the vavebody or a solonoid is sticking from being gunked up. Any comments? I have a feeling I am going to be putting a trans in her truck next week end. I will only have about 4-5 hours to complete this at work. How long do you think it will take an experience vw tech, who has never done this job, to complete?
