Engine whine noise

Hi there. I have a 2005 Toyota Corolla LE, automatic. It has about 40k miles on it. Recently I've heard a strange whine/whistle coming from the engine. I only hear it when I'm doing speeds over 45-50 mph. If I take my foot off the gas it goes away and comes back as soon as I engage the gas. It seems to diminish somewhat if I'm going over 70 mph. I took it to the dealership where I bought it and they were stumped and told me to take it to a Toyota specialist. Let me know if you have any ideas. Thanks.

Hi! I'm a new member in this forum and I'm from the Philippines, an owner of a toyota corolla gli 1993 model. I have exactly the same problem. Whenever my speedometer reaches 70-80kms/hr there is a whining noise but as soon as I reduce the speed the noise goes away. It has been this way for more than 2 years now.
I've been to many mechanics and they have done several adjustments to the wheel assembly, changing of pulleys and belts and even a top engine overhaul but to no avail. This is a puzzle to most mechanics here.

Were you able to solve your problem? Appreciate if you could share the solution

My 2005 CE Corolla is doing the same thing. I've noticed the whining noise goes away when you shift into neutral from drive at 40 mph. I suspect that if it was vaccum related the noise would not go away just by shifting into neutral. MY CE is a automatic, but the noise reminds me of a "throw-out beairng" on a standard that I hand many years ago. I have a feeling that it is the idler bearing on the tension pulley. When you back off on the throttle the noise goes away, so I associate that with the idler pulley bearing being unloaded and the noise comes back when you step on the throttle.
