Was wondering if I could fit 285/75/16 on my stock 1998 Chevy Z71 ext. cab? Stock tires were Goodyear Wranger RT/S 265/75/16. I was looking at some Firestone Destination M/T's and was going to go up a size. The guy at the Goodyear Dealer said no problem until I get around 305 so has anyone upped their stock tire size without any mods?
Thanks for any replies.

I have the same truck with Maxxis Buckshot LT285/75/16 on it. No problems with rubbing, but your speedometer may be off a little (3% ?). I think you can get the computer flashed or something, but it's not a big deal to me.
Get the tire shop to put the black lettering on the outside...it looks better if you ask me.
I think any larger and you have to make some tweaks to prevent rubbing, etc.
Stock tire size on mine was LT245/75/16.
We had Firestone Destination LE on my wife's Tahoe. Had 90k miles on them before we replaced them so I'd guess the M/Ts would be good as well. Go to tirerack.com and you can read reviews, etc.

285/75/16 will fit as long as fender flares, mud flaps, etc. don't interfere.
IMO, the raised white outline looks better facing out.

I have 285's on two of my trucks the only problem I have is pulling a trailer at high speeds you can really tell the difference from 265's to 285's in the amount of power, harder to stay in over drive always wants to down shift. I am actually thinking about changing back. If you don't pull trailers and are not concerned on the fuel mileage that much I would go with the 285's.

I'm getting ready to buy some 285/75 R16 stock are 265/75 also let me know how this works out? Is the change in low end and hills pulling a trailer make a huge change? Approx. gas mileage drop was?

On my '86 4x4 w/ 350ci., going from the stock 235/85/16 to 285/75/16 made no noticable difference in anything. Even switching back and forth between my on-road 235/85/16 and my off-road 35x12.5x15 there is very little difference.
Gas mileage shouldn't change much if the tread pattern is similar.

I put 285/75-16 on my truck today w/ no mods and they look great with little to no change in low end. The only thing is you speed o will be off approx. 4 mph. It will read 60 and you will actually be running approx 64 mph +/-
