Tamiya Countach LP400 wheels...

I don't have the original kit issued by Tamiya roughly 25 years ago, wondering if anyone here does have an original to compare.

I have the two reissues, the white one reissued in the '90's (still motorized), and the new blue reissue (sans motor and gears) that just hit the shelves.

My white reissue has roughly 15" wheels; they are .67" diameter. Tires are P7's.

My new blue reissue has the supposedly new tool Campagnolos and Michelin XWX's. They look nice, but the wheels are .595" diameter, which works out to a scale 13" diameter, they are a bit small. The visible diameter is always about a scale inch or two larger due to the tire retaining lip on the wheels. Sometimes kit wheels are undersized when a kit engineer doesn't seem to know that the visible diameter is supposed to be larger in diameter than the stated size. It's kind of an obsession I have with kit wheels :uhoh:

I'm wondering if the wheels/tires in the newly reissued LP400S are really new, or reissues from the very first issue of the kit (also molded in blue, and motorized back then).

And if anyone has a Fujimi LP400, what size wheels are in there, and what tires?

Thanks. My ultimate plans are to build the Countach w/the new tires and the old reissue wheels. I'm just looking for some basic information on all the wheels.

Thanks, the LP500S has completely different wheels than the LP400.

I've been told by Veyron that the original wheels for the LP400 were 17mm, the same as my 90's reissue (I said tires in my 90's reissue were P7's but that's just the tread look, the tires are unmarked). So the wheels in the new reissue are new, and I assume the tires are as well. It's disappointing that they're a scale inch too small in diameter at just over 15mm. The old versions were 17mm, same width front/rear. The new wheels/tires are wider in the rear. I'm glad I have a set of the 17mm wheels and the new tires will fit them. In reality the wheels should be about 16.5mm.

I think Tamiya made the same mistake as Fujimi did with the IS350 kit. I guess the designers were unexperienced, and didn't know about the wheel flange.
How is Tamiya's new XWX tire (like engraving, diameter and width)? Do you think it will look good on Fujimi's 365BB, if the tire can be fitted on the correct 17mm dia. wheel?

The XWX's are very nicely engraved. They have "Michelin XWX" engraved on the sidewalls along w/the faint radial lines. They stretch well over the earlier LP400 17mm wheel. Is there a correct 17mm wheel now for the Fujimi 365BB? These tires were an easier stretch over the 17mm wheels than stretching the tires in my 512BB over the wheels.

XWX Front: 25.9mm (1.02") X 10.17mm (.4")
XWX Rear: 26.9mm (1.06") X 11.18mm (.44")

The new LP400 wheels fit Fujimi RX3 tires with ease :uhoh:
