Connector location?

Hi guys,

I have a 1994 Cherokee with the 4.0L engine, AW4 tranny, and NP242 transmission.

I recently did a transmission swap, and it all went pretty well except I was left with a unknown harness that didn't get put back in. I quickly found I had no speedo, or odometer, so I found out that this is the wiring for the vehicle speed sensor, off the back of the transfer case, to under the hood.

The problem is, I can't find where to connect this under the hood! It should be obvious, but for the life of me, I cannot find this connectors mate! Anyone able to give me the location of this connector? It's a bit sketchy driving around town with no speedometer, plus its making my CEL come on as well.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Where is the unknown harness located?

If you don't have speedo, check on the transmission itself, there are a couple of sensors on top I think that you'll need to reattach. Hopefully one of the trans guys will be along shortly.

Other than that, I'd suggest tracing the wiring harness, and following each and every wire bundle to see if any are disconnected.

You may have connected all of them, but not put one together all the way, so double check all the connections you can find to make sure.

The speedo sensor mounts into the transfer case housing and I'm not 100% sure but i believe that the other connector is on the harness at the firewall at the back of the valve cover. There's 2 there and I know one goes to the NSS switch and i believe the other goes to the speedo. I'll check my 92 tomorrow and let you know what I find.

Awesome thanks. I'll have a look myself tomorrow behind the valve cover.

Im 100% sure its not hooked up, well, because I have the harness in my hand! lol. I know where it hooks up on the xfer case, but its the other end I can't find. Let me know what you see dave. It'll be great to have my speedo working again.

EDIT: Amazing how I can spend hours searching for something on the internet, only to find it within a few seconds of searching for something completly unrelated. Turns out your right dave! This is a very helpful pic for anyone looking for connector locations under the hood. Hopefully this helps others!
