Hey guys/gals,
I just bought a 99 tracker 4cy automatic 4x4. I bought it knowing that the 4wd did not work, thinking it was due to the vacuum pump not working. Well I decided that instead of fixing the pump I would switch the auto hubs with manual ones. If I do this will the 4x4 light on the dash work? Is there anything else I should be concerned about?
Thanks!

The 3rd gen trackers don't use auto hubs, the axles are engaged inside the diff by the vacuum pump, so if you just put manual hubs on, your front axles won't turn under power, you need to either put a locker in the front and go with the manual hubs, or replace the vacuum pump. You could also swap in an older front end, but that is a much bigger project.
Are you positive its the pump? Does the light flicker, or not turn on at all? also check the lines as they can pop off easily, its located on the passenger side of your front bumper FYI, very easy to access.
