My friend has a 2001 blazer s-10 hes put 3 new fuel pumps in it check engine lights on it but a scan tool wont receive signal from the vehicle. the pumps are about 500 bucks a peice and the last two have been on warrenty but theres still a 300 dollor labor charge for replaceing it. im wanting to know what would make the fuel pumps come out of it like that it seems like every 4 or 5 months it starts to take a lot of cranking to get it started any advice can help

What brand of fuel pump is he putting in it?
What is failing on the pumps or quiting?
Is he running the fuel tank low before fill up?
Is the fuel filters picking up any dirt or water or trash?
Is that 500 for the pump +300 labor or 500 total?

hes taking it to a garage i think there getting them from car quest

i couldn't tell u whats failing on the pump Ive never done one he takes it to a garage every time one goes out for the warranty

hes always running between a quarter tank of gas and empty alot of the time

i don't think its getting any contaminants in the gas but when you fill it up you can smell gas leaking from some where we just always thought there was an over fill on it cause it only dose it if u take a sharp fast turn or fill it all the way up with gas

and that's about 500 for the pump which is now warrantied and about 300 labor i guess cause they gotta drop the tank

mind if i ask your view on why a scan tool wont communicate with it

Running low on fuel will help wipe out a fuel pump. keep a 1/4 tank or more of fuel in it.

The gas smell on a turn should be fixed .
You have a leak someplace and tank may be getting dirt and water in it.

As to carquest fuel pumps they have used a lot of Airtex brand fuel pumps that are now junk.
Most of the carquest stores have switched over to AC delco/Delphi because ever airtex they sold was coming back bad.

If it needs replaced again use only AC-delco/Delphi OEM type pump and your problem should be fixed.

Check the diagnostic plug for 12 volt power and ground.
Most are fused so check all fuses on car and scantool.
Good Luck

Thanks

Also file a labor claim on the bad fuel pumps.
If the pumps went bad the fuel pump co should pay the labor to replace them.

But good luck getting it.
I had 3 bad airtex fuel pumps that did not even start the truck to get it out of the garage.
Went to there hot line and went threw all test on the pumps and they said they are bad replace them.
Filled a labor claim and airtex said nothing wrong with the fuel pumps.
But went someplace else and got another brand and away the truck went.
Good Luck

AC-DELCO/DELPHI OEM TYPE.

Anything else has went to pot.
Carter used to be good but went to pot.
Everybody then went to Airtex but they have also went to pot.
Carquest is getting almost all airtex pumps back bad and are switching over to Delphi.
Other parts places are going to to follow the switch over.
After eating a bunch of 90 day wonder and Airtex pumps.

Auto Zone has had AC-delco pumps at a good price for a long time.
But they still offer the other 90 day wonder pumps at a little lower price.

AC-delco/delphi fuel pumps are the only ones that are any good and meet all specs of OEM.
And only give you a one time hurt in the rear pocket book.
Good Luck
