Doesn't the letter you got announcing the recall explain the problem? All owners of record get recall notifications. I haven't heard of a recall but I'm not in the loop anymore since I retired.

the abs recall is about front sensors behind rotors rust out and force the abs speed sensor out slightly. this then cannot read vehicle speed. so if you bring this in to be repaired and in the process they have to damage your caliper/ rotor brake pads in other words let's make some money on this ! it can amount to 1200.00 in costs for your free abs fix. I would remove all these parts make sure caliper/rotor come off and then submit for repair.. goooood luck !

Yeah, it's about the abs sensors on the front wheels. Took mine in a while back and they did clean them and was fine till about a week ago, now it's doing the same thing again so I just popped the fuse before I rearend someone! Gonna check it out when I have time.

Cleaning the speed sensors will not do a thing to fix it.Replace the wheel bearing or wheel bearings which are not covered by GM which they should do.My father's 2002 GMC dually went thorough this and the problem went away after replacing the left front wheel bearing and it was not the sensor.

this is not a cleaning issue this is rust pushing the sensor out so far out it cannot pick up the bearing movement. sensors themselves are good. bearing may be problem but the recall is only for rust causing the sensor to be forced out away from bearing. if bearing was talking and abs lt on i would say ya bearing n/g causing sensor to screw up ......this recall is for rust belt only, now the failures and accidents are increasing across the country so it has expanded to other states. i did this on my vehicle well before it became an issue as i periodicly remove rotors and clean up the rust......the reason i will not have my truck touched by them is they will probably put some metal shavings in my sensor hole so that they can screw me on a bearing....

It's not reading the bearing...it's reading a ring that is spinning past the head of the sensor and making a small amount of voltage that goes to the ABS computer. If the rust forces the sensor head away from the ring the voltage goes down on that side and then you have a difference between the sides.

yes you are correct there is a tooth ring in there. I only saw the bearing when I removed the front abs wheel sensor . inside that small hole is the bearing. if the bearing begins to fail this causes the sensor to read improperly and computer throws codes...... I have never taken a bearing apart on a silverado ..........but i have seen a bearing inside that hole........
