04 GTP stability control

I bought this car for my wife in the fall, and all was good, until we got to winter. it seems that stability control was designed for fair-weather climates only. the first storm, with new winter tires, my wife went into a skid and landed in the ditch. no damage to the car, but she said that it was like the brakes went on when she started to slide sideways. i took the car for a ride later that day, and while trying to corner quick, it began to slide (actually fun in controlled area), and the brakes were applied and stability control active showed up on HUD. i ended up sideways in the road, with no control of the car. i have searched for a way to disable the stability control, but have not found one yet, so i was hoping that there would be some input from the group. for now, i have the 40 amp fuse pulled for the ABS pump, but that has also disabled the ABS(which is ok), but also the traction control, which is one thing that we both like. so, long story short, is there a way to disable the stability control?
