replacing my D15-- budget swap for daily driver

How much extra work would it be to do a MPFI swap after I swapped in a D15? It seems as if i could swap in a D15 right now pretty easily, then upgrade to MPFI later.

Am i correct to think that the MPFI swap can be done just as easily while the the engine is in? Doing it while the engine out wouldn't be all that much of easier, right?

I'm thinking of settling for a D15 instead of a D16 because it's cheaper and less aggrevation. If my $ situation gets better in a year i can look at bolt on mods for speed. But right now i've got major blowby, a leaking rear main seal and not a lot of extra $$. The speedshops here want an arm and a leg to do swaps. My mechanic can do a d15 swap for a reasonable price.

What i might do is get a new header with the swap now, while my mechanic is working on it-- while he's going to have everything out anyway.

I'm not a mechanic but i'm guessing thinking adding MPFI after the swap would make more sense than adding header/exhaust after the fact.

OK, after going over the situation, i've decided to opt for a D15 instead of swapping a D16. Certainly not an exciting swap, but it's the best thing for my current situation.

Any thoughts?

The only part that will be harder is getting to the bolts on the underside of the manifold while its in the car..which isnt THAT hard to begin with..so no, its no harder to do it with it in the car, in fact its probably alot easier because you know how much you need to lengthen the wires and you have all the sensors already in place. Our cars engine bays are so easy to move around in once you've swapped the engine..I dunno why that is. Even for another d15 it seems like once you put it back in theres just less CRAP in the there lol. Plenty of space by the main harness coming out of the cabin and enough space to work behind the intake manifold.

i agree, its not totally hard to swap w/ motor in car.
