haha that, and they will pay me to do my favorite hobby (working out) and pay me to learn how to do metal working. Seems a lot better than my current sitution where i am paying for both.

Sounds great, so long as you don't mind alot of sand and the occasional insurgent trying to blow you to smithereens.

Me personally, I prefer to not wake up to bullets zinging all around my head.

Well, I guess when you proposition little girls all the time, having a nutzapper around keeps the reflexes ready for such occasions.

If its something you really want to do, and commit too, by all means do it.

We're just an online forum here, but we can offer sage advice for helping one make life altering decisions.

I got 3 friends that joined the Navy out of high school. Haven't talked to 2 of them for awhile, but 1 of them is wanting to become a 'lifer'. He says its and experience of a lifetime and he's having fun. Right now, he's over in the Middle East doing construction or something, but the details are secret.

Enlistments are down right now, so you might get a nice signing bonus. And who knows, the GI Bill could do you a lot of good later, if you chose to use it. Physically, any military branch will kick your ass into shape (except the Air Force; know a guy who did that too, and he still is a prick).

Good luck to you, whatever you may decide, and I hope it works out for you. Hope you find whatever it is you are looking for away from home.

i guess i am the only one that would tell you not to do it.. for the simple fact that if you do get sent to iraq, have fun with that. A good friend of mine from school was severely injured in iraq while he was in the marines. He was shot in the leg by an insurgent sniper and it shattered his femur (large thigh bone). over 18 months later he can barely walk and definately cannot work.. was honorably discharged and the government pays him all of 200 bucks a month for his trouble..

nice signing bonus? Try $20,000 and up to $60,000 if I sign up for Active First, which basically means your ass is going to iraq pronto lol.

would they actually give you that much?

most i've heard of someone getting is like $8,000.

Its a principle of economics, demand goes up, so does the price.

I have considered the military a few times. Never serious enough to check out the recruiting office or anything. But I decided that if I don't like my major and my degree when I am done, to go into the military as an officer. It would be easier than going back to school again and waste more money.

would it really go as far as $60,000?

cuda_dude

I think it depends on what you commit to but I can't see anyone getting 60k

KaotiKCamaro5
02-13-2008, 10:48 PM
the money system they use is kindof like winning the lottery.. drawn out in small installments over time.. the longer you sign for, the more you get.. etc.

once again.. they do this, so as if you die in combat, you don't get the rest of your money.. and up front it isn't enough to buy anything cool, like say, a new car..

cuda_dude
02-13-2008, 10:50 PM
I don't think you get the money if you're injured either

I'd never join for the money... If i was going to join it would have to be because I wanted to fight for something or I wanted that way of life. The money would just be a bonus.
