Been reading some of the forum posts because I have a couple of questions for the gurus and want to make sure they weren't asked before...
First a quick hist...
I bout a 99 540i -6speed, about a month ago, titanium silver. The car while it runs AMAZING has some body flaws. a ding and some road rash from stones. Well I work for an American Auto producer and some freakin moron doored me. Took a pretty good gouge out of my paint (I am not talking about a 'little scratch' I am talking about a 3/8 wide strip down to primer.
Well, I do my own mechanical work and figured I could do some kind of touch up on this. So I watched a few youtube videos and decided it was doable. I did the work and the couple of spots where I was doored looks like my car had the mumps at one point and you can see the scars...they are flat and you cannot discern the level of the paint but the measles looks has me pretty upset. The car also has a rust spot just starting.
I figured Id get a compressor and learn to do my own touch up.So I started looking for a small compressor. Then I went to our paint shop told one of the guys what I was doing he told me to get an airbrush that for the kind of work I was going to be doing this would be more than adequate....
A little advice? Anyone else ever heard of this? I guess matching silver is a PITA but I am also worried about the clear coat and getting the 'shine' to match...
Any advice from an experienced painter is appreciated...(Size, kind or any othe perteninet advice)
THANKS
