Have a mechanic diagnose the sound first. 95K is very low miles for a timing chain problem. Even if it is in that area, it may not be the chain causing the noise, so a new one won't fix it. If you havn't already, remove the serpentine belt and see if the noise goes away.

Can't help with time/cost... most ecotecs aren't in need of a timing chain yet.

It is too soon for a timing chain replacement, but worn timing chain guides will start to make a little noise in these engines. This noise is harmless, but annoying. I had my chain replaced for this same type of noise, the mechanic said that the chain and the tensioner were both good, but the guides were worn to a point that a noise could be heard. I only had the chain and tensioner replaced because everything was all taken apart. It cost $750.00 so it is a good idea to wait on this one.:headshake

I've got almost 190,000 miles on my 2.4l, I don't think yours will break at 95,000 :)

How bad did it overheat? It's possible there's internal engine damage.

well it was bad enough for a engine mount bolt to break later that day . but the overheating happenned at 60,000 miles about a year and 2 months ago
