auto transmission problem

Hi , I bought a BMW 525i 1992 automatic 4 door sedan 3 months ago, for $5,000 which had done 165,000 km and which the mechanic who owned it said was sound.. It now developed what the the same garage calls a flair between 3rd and 4th gear and the verdict of the transmission specialist they sent it to,is that it will be around $3,000 to strip out the transmission, and get rid of the problem.

I don't know much about cars, and would appreciate anyone elses thoughts or experiences.

Bad news bud. They're right. I have the EXACT SAME car except it's a 535i, mine had/has 208,000 km's. And it has/had that hard shift.

Well just before I left BC the Electronic Shift Program failed and left the tranny in the top (4th) gear. What I should have done was turned around and went down the hill and parked it but hell, fresh powder. Woot!!!! +1!

Anyways I burnt out the clutches or bands or whatever the hell I burnt up, now I have to pay for the tranny to be rebuilt. Oh well I guess I'll just have to make more money. :P

Anyways that hard shift will stay until you get it repaired. You can try and get the fluid changed though, that's about the only thing I can think of. Probably gonna need a rebuild though.

Sorry.
