A solution to a wierd problem

A couple of years ago my 04 Escape developed the wierdest problem. Whenever I would try to fill up the gas tank, the gas would go in for a few seconds and then the auto shutoff would trip, even though the low fuel light was on and on a gallon or so had gone in. Since the extended warrenty covered problems like this we took it to the dealer. After replacing the fuel tank and assorted fittings, sensors, and the like, it was discovered that the vent tube that allows the escape of air when the gas is coming in was blocked, by of all things, a spider nest. The spider had made a nest inside the tube and the silk was stuck so tightly to the inside of the tube that the air pressure from filling the tank could not blow it out. Darned thing wasted several days and lots of work by the shop at the dealers. So my advice is, if your Escape starts acting like this, have them check the gas tank vent tube first. It just may save you lots of time and aggrevation!

Thanks for the info. The Escape don't fill very well anyway, but to have a spider problem compounds this.
