I'm planning to replace the front struts on my '98 GS w/ 155K mi.
Considering: KYB GR2, Monroe-Matic Plus, Monroe-Matic SensaTrac, or AC Delco Premium.
I only plan to drive the car another 50K or so mi. I'd choose comfy ride over extreme handling performance if there is a trade-off.
Are there any to avoid and are any worth paying extra for this application?
Thanks

for the perticular situation your talking about I would just go to the local parts store and get standard replacements.
They will give you the ride you have now without that extra cost.
and, shop arround, you will find the same thing at different places with different prices. probley came out of the same warehouse.

Basically it is best to stay with the OEM GM/AC Delco struts if you liked the original handling and ride. The GS has a GT suspension system meaning it is tuned and the struts are specially valved for this car. Monroes are too generic and cushy and your handling will suffer so there is a trade off. The KYB GR2 is a good choice but the ride will be stiffer until they break in for a coupe of thousand miles. Be sure to inspect the upper strut mounts all around and load bearings (front end only). Replace if necessary and use the original GM ones. Aftermarket mounts are questionable and you may get front end noises you never had before. Good luck.
