Hello all. First I just want to say hi, since this is my first post here.
I have a 2000 V8 LS with the sports package. Now on to my problem. When I start my car up, it beeps 3 times and does that series of beeps for 6 times. (sorry if that doesn't make too much sense.) I noticed that my airbag light does not come on at all when I start the engine. I took it to a dealer and he said that it looks like a short in a wire. I just realized that my crusie control does not work at all anymore. I have done a few searches, and read about the clockspring. Does this sound like what could be the problem with my car? I haven't read on here about the beeping and not having the air bag light come on at all when you start the car. I will also be taking a look under my driver seat. These are two common things I read here.
Thanks for any input.

Welcome to the forum!
The beeping occurs when the computer determines that the bulb is faulty. So, if you were to replace the bulb in the instrument cluster, the beeping would likely go away and instead you'd get a sequence of flashes indicating the Lamp Fault Code (LFC).

How easy is it to replace the bulb? And what type of bulb would it be? I am some-what capable of fixing things myself to a certain degree. I also have a copy of the 2000 Service manual, which should also help.

Having never had to remove the instrument cluster on an LS, your service manual and understanding of your own tools and capabilities is probably a better gauge for you than my expectation.

On most vehicles, the airbag light should come on for @6 seconds, and then go off if the system is working properly. If there is a fault or a problem in the system, the light will remain illuminated, or flash a code continuously. If the airbag light does not work properly, some vehicles have an audible tone that sounds indicating a problem with the airbag light system. When the light is on (or the tone is sounding), the airbag will NOT deploy, even in an accident. Most systems can only be diagnosed using a scanner designed for the airbag system, however some use flash codes to indicate the problem. The scanners at Auto Zone or the ones that sell for @ $50 will not access the airbag system, only the engine systems (check engine light).
This website gives you the procedure for diagnosing and resetting some systems without a scanner. Some vehicle manufacturers accommodate that (like Toyota, Lexus, Nissan, Infinity, Honda, Acura, Ford, Lincoln, Mazda & Mercury) and some require a scan tool. http://www.airbagsolutions.com/
