Hello I have a 2002 lincoln ls sport with the v-8.I love the car with the exception of the dreaded coil pac issue. It has 62,000 miles on it , one day while i was driving with the cruise on it just shut off and could not re ingage it. After the car sat overenight, I tried it again and the cruise worked for about 6 miles then shut off again . Still would not re ingage. Now some history. The servo and the brake switch was replaced on this car when I bought it because the cruise didn't work then! This was about 2 years ago, no problem with the cruise till now. I don't think it could be the clockspring, since I have no air bag light on and my horn and radio controls work fine. Is something getting hot after a few miles and then shuts off till it cools? What other component could be bad. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to the forum!
You could have a cruise control servo issue that is intermittant, or potentially a sensor that is not giving reliable information to the PCM so the PCM deactivates the cruise. I'm not thinking of what sensor would do that without triggering a check engine light though.
It may be worth attempting to pull pending codes to see if there is anything related to the cruise such as a speed sensor, etc.

Thanks for the info. Could this also be as simple as a vac. leak? Thanks again

I don't think the cruise shutting off would be due to a vacuum leak. In the old days, cruise servos were actuated by vacuum, but I'm pretty sure your LS has an electric servo.
Are you having other driveability concerns that makes you suspect a vacuum leak?

no other drivability concerns, no eng lights. cars runs great. this is weird worked fine the other day 7 miles this time and then shut off would not reingage. If it is the servo where is it located in the eng. compartment? Thanks again

I'll have to check the service manual to be sure. I think though that I noticed the servo in my wife's 2002 when I was changing the fuel filter which is located in the driver's side wheel well. Remove the fender liner and look up to the rear.

thanks again for all your help. I just replaced the fuel filter,so i will check it out. By the way cruise worked perfect coming home from work today!! I drive 50 miles one way to work and it stayed on the whole time. It does sound like it could be the servo has an elect. problem. If you find out anything more , let me know Thanks!!!!!

The service manual says to access the speed control actuator, you need to remove the left front wheel and left front splash shield. It would appear that this is the passenger side (opposite side of the fuel filter). I guess you can follow the path of the cruise control throttle cable to figure out which side to tear into.
