Transmission Indicator Showing E

I was on my way to work today. Pulled up to a light and with the car in D5, the indicator on the dash under the RPM indicator, which normally shows D5 while driving showed an E instead. When i gave it gas, the transmission felt like the clutch was slipping.
It took about 5 seconds and then D5 showed again and the car accelerated normally.
Curious if anyone else has experienced this or knows the root of this problem.

Sounds like you need to find a shop or friend with a scan tool loaded with the transmission software and see what codes are set.
A "generic" scan tool like what your local auto parts store may have won't have this transmission software.

That's why I typed that you need to find a scan tool with the transmission software. The E is an error indication for the transmission and not the engine. Therefore, since most auto parts stores only have the capability to read a code that will set a check engine light, they won't be able to read your code most likely. The OBD-II system and possibly the CAN protocol (since you don't mention the year of your LS, I don't know if you have CAN or not) interface multiple "computers." There is a separate computer for the transmission, but the codes and datastream for the transmission is still accessed through the same OBD-II port, but requires different software.

It's been awhile has it happened again? I learned to ignore weird stuff like that because it probably just a fluke, but I would advise pulling over and turning off the car and restarting it, to kinda like reset things. Just a few days ago driving down the road a ding warning sound went off one time and it showed my parking brake was on, and I hadn't even used it for months, I turned my car off and restarted it, hasnt done it again yet, and about 6 months ago when I left the house the light red security light was still flashing on my dash so I stopped and restarted it, never done it again, sometimes when I open the door with the key in, there is no chime, I can push and wiggle it and it won't chime, but if I pull it out and put it back in , it chimes, thats the only weird thing that happens the most often, maybe once ever 2 months. I wouldnt run to the shop to quick if I where you, you know they'll say "you need a new tranny" :evillol:
