Hi Guys,
My Rodeo's pulley making so much noise first cold start up than as it warm up the noise went away. It's been doing it couple weeks and now it got worse that scare me to drive it. I'm in cold state "MN" I tried to find out which one of pulley cause the noise but couldn't pin it down. I replaced serpentine belt about two months ago and idle pulley about two years ago. Can any of you suggest it to me which one of these pulleys are common cause or failure. It has about 133,000 miles. Thanks in advance. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Typically it it the upper pulley. I've had noise when it is cold too (I'm in WI). Last year I have the upper pulley replaced and I think some of my cold pulley noise went away.
This is the most common one to make noises.

Number 7 is correct. I believe it's called the Idler Pulley. Autozone has a cheap plastic one for about $17. It takes about 5 minutes to replace it. I'm surpriised you got 133k out of it.

Mine is making the same noise with 115k miles. Replaced the idler pulley,,still had noise. Tried to replace the tensioner pulley but none of the parts stores have it listed as the tensioner pulley. Found one online that I will order, but if that is not the problem, does anyone have other suggestions? Vacuum? Gasket leak?:runaround:

Is the water pump still original?

Try removing the serpentine belt and then running the engine.
Has the noise gone? Stop the motor and turn each of the pulleys by hand and check for noise or roughness. The noise is somewhere in the serpentine belt train.
Was the noise still there? Then it *could* be a pulley in the timing-belt train behind the front covers, as hinted at by amigo-2k above.

My 99 rodeo v6 upper idler pulley has been making noise for about the last 6 months, although I wasn't sure that was the problem until now...it just locked up with 98k miles on it.
are the only readily-available units plastic? I know if I have to get this from the dealer it may take a while (if they have to order it) and cost much $$.
