Im trying to install an aftermarket headunit and i know i have been told that you have to rewire to use the sub and have to get a new amp. but i was checking and noticed that wireharnest used only uses one of the plugs in the back of the stock head unit so im trying to see if there is another one for the other plug. confusing im sure but if you see it you would know what im talking about.

This really should be in the Eclipse2000+ section. They may be able to help you. I hate cars that have amps in them, such a PITA to wire

I think he had 2 plugs that went into the factory radio, but only uses 1 of them for the aftermarket cd player. And he wants to keep the stock amp working with this setup. It that what your trying to do?

You may need to locate a wiring diagram and just fix it yourselve, I dont know if anyone makes a plug and play type of harness.

Oh ok, I get it. The second connection I would thnk would be for some type of onboard vehicle diagnostics. So have you switched out head units? If you have, I take the sub/amp does not work?

WHAT? Vehicle diagnostics?? I doubt that. They way they wire fatory cars with amps and subs are very different from anything aftermarket. Like I said earlier, he will more than likely have to find a wiring diagram and build his own harness to make everything work like stock. It can be done.

The whole point of this thread was because he wants to keep the factory sub/amp but make it work with an aftermarket deck. And beside they would be useless to you anyways. Those amps are a PITA to hook up.

Is a factory amp wired the same as an aftermarket one?

No, all the ones I have seen have 1-2 plugs on them and a bunch of wires coming out. They dont have RCA inputs, or pos, neg, and speaker terminals.

Here is a pic of the amp that should be in his car.

i tried to find a wire diagram and it didnt really help me (might have been the wrong one). but when i was playing around with it before i came to where i am not i saw wires from the new head unit that showed amp and sub and i was looking at the other plug and some of the wires matched up color wise. i think i might just be stuck with getting a new amp and rewireing the car cause every one keeps telling me ill lose the power going to front and rear (which i know is false cause i hooked it up temporarily to see things and i had sound outa all but the sub). if any one knows of any other helpfull sites please let me know. i might end up just taking it to a place to have them install it and work on it to make it work. i just like doing everything myself so i know whats what.

Ok I have worked on factory amps. I would say you get it done by pros, its more coponents you have to buy to make it work with your factory amp. Plus you may accidently void the warranty on it if you happen to mess something up.

Jason, do you have a pic of the plug? I think if I saw the plug I could be able to handle it.

No I dont have a pic of the plug, I found that on ebay. haha

I would be careful who you take it to, it might be wise to contact a local audio shop (a good one, not best buy) and see what they say about it. I would be careful about letting anyone wire it as some people dont give a shit and just give you a half assed wiring.

If it was my car I would find all the wiring diagrams I could and figure out how the system works first. Do all the speakers run through the amp or just the sub? Then find all the wires that plug into the stock stereo and find out what each does. With that info you will be able to get everthing working properly. It will take a good bit or work though.

Actually taking it to Best Buy or Circuit City is not a bad idea. As long as you've heard good/bad stories about them like doing your research. They have access to all the wirings for every car. Damn, I used to have login for those places too. Damn intranets.

Oh Definately go pro. You don't want to mess up a nav system, just let us know how it turns out and take some pics.
