Honda 2003 Alternator Problems??

I had to get a new alternator for my Honda 2003 Accrod. Thought it was the battery, but after it was jumped and I was driving it, different dashboard lights were coming on and off then the died on me and it had to be towed. It will cost me (at the dealer) $539 parts and labor. What has anyone else paid? I checked the internet and saw that honda alternators parts for $266..so labor is that much to install it?:banghead:

Since you you have installed a new alternator and your question is about a warning light, describe what light and what it says.

After I got my battery jumped, I thought I only had a dead battery. After that, while driving the car, various lights on my dashboard would come on and off, but the engin icon light stayed on. But the ABS and brack lights would come on and off. Then my car died and a jump would not fix it. It was towed to the dealer and after a few hrs called to say it was an alternator problem. So question is shouldn't an alternator last longer? I had no warning in prior weeks days this may happen. Any thoughts??

Sounds like a over voltage caused by the bad alternator. Alternators should last at least 100K miles. Threre may be other problems caused by the alternator. Dealer alternators can cost $300+ plus a couple hours of labor to replace.

On my 99 LX the alternator is right there at the top of the engine. You need to undo two bolts and it will be out. Probably it is different on 2003.
mpumas is right: alternators should last you at leas 100,000 unles you overloaded it.

The symptoms described above sound like a bad ground to me. But if the alternator has been already replaced not too much you can do.
