98 Caravan no start after BCM repair

I had a problem with my BCM on my Caravan, I ended up sending the one that was on the car to FL. to be repaired.
But prior to that i found one same code 62AE installed it and the horn started honking and lights flashed and the car would stall right away.
So i assumed that the one i was sent was for a car with an alarm.
We just got this van and my neighbor says it never had an alarm.
So I sent the original off the be repaired.
Got it back installed it and all the gages work no horn or lights but it wont start.
I did pull one plug wire off and it was getting spark.
Should i probe an injector plug to see if its getting elect to it?
What do ya think.
I have an al data subscript for this car but there not to good at helping for this kind of stuff.
Thanks
tony

I'm really starting to hate this Van.
So it cranked and cranked and no start.
I happened to notice the fuel Icon was on...
So i get a few gallons of gas put it in and guess what it stated but stalled.
I was standing outside the van so i don't know if i could have kept it running by giving it a little gas. It started again and stalled again as well.
So i get inside to crank it over and try and keep it running and
Nothing no starter nada zip.
thought it might be because of a low battery...
hooked up the charger hit the start setting on it...
same thing no starter not even a little click.
It late and its dark so i'll try and dive into it a little more tomorrow.
but in the mean time if anybody has any suggestions let me know.
Thanks
tony

This may not even be worth posting because I don't recall the details but, I remember reading something about if you install a BCM with the factory alarm feature programmed into it, into a van that doesn't have the alarm, it can effect the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
Turn the key and check for 12vdc at the starter at both connections. If it's there, replace/rebuild the starter. If it's not at the connection to the solenoid go backwards in the starting circuit till you find it. Here's the path: starter/starter relay/neutral start switch/ignition switch/battery. If you don't see 12vdc at the hot battery connection on the starter, either the cable is bad or the battery has a problem.
Once you get that fixed, since you have spark, check for fuel at the fuel rail test port and feel for a click from the injectors as you crank.
I understand the frustration. There were times when I thought of the nearest cliff to push it off of.

That place in Fl is worthless to send any computers sent in to get repaired.Believe me,went through that and had one with a code that required the computer to be replaced in a 2001 Dodge Intrepid. The place said they never heard of the code and found nothing wrong with the computer.Getting an ECM or BCM repaired is a waste of money. The best thing is to get a replacement and has to be programed with Chrysler's factory scan tool,DRB III.

Just make sure it's insured fully before you push it over...:grinyes:
What RIP was saying is correct about the PCM. The dealer told me the PCM and BCM communicate with each other. After you replace the BCM they have to DRB it, program it - the PCM that is - to accept the BCM. After this the PCM and BCM will communicate properly. Even if you replace the BCM with the right one and it's not programmed through the PCM you will still have problems. Hope this helps.
Just to edited, this info is for 4th generations, I just noticed yours is 3rd, sorry about that, this may be true on 3rd generations but not positive.

I pulled the relay from the panel under the hood
I can jump out the starter fron there
http://www.alldatadiy.com/alldata/AFI~V11154700~C35149~R0~OB0~P3R0H~N/0/56775861/62670957/62670963/81881130/34853741/92093561/100407536/56250598/56250616/78547213
By jumping from "B" to "D"
I have power at "A" when i turn the key to the start position.
Did i mention I hates this Van
Anybody have any suggestions on what to check or how to check.
Thanks In advance
Tony

Yes your correct the pictures keep changing when you come back to the post.
Is there a way that i can add attachments to my posts?
If its a matter of a fee not a problem it would be worth it.
plus i would like to have the troubleshooting guides i got from ALLData put on the board to help frustrate others:grinyes:
Anyhow i swapped out the relay got the same result.
I even pulled the relay and hit the coil with 12 volts and got continuity across the other two.
So the problem is that the PCM is not grounding the "c" leg of the relay
what that means i have no idea, hoping someone here does.
Lat me know about the attachment thing it would sure help if we were looking at the same picture.
Thanks
Tony
Sorry i forgot to mention...
I Hate This Van
Thank You
oooo i forgot to mention
i do AC work and got to go to
Melanie Griffith's house today
she wasn't there today, but man she is BEAUTIFUL
and such a sweetheart
I'm sure she knows the affect she has on men and seems very humble and down to earth
as well as her hubby Antonio
thanks

So i guess i'll head back to ALLData and see if i can check it out.
Thanks

So I'm OK with the fact i will have to seek professional help with my Van
I did a search on reprogramming the PCM and came across this in a post
"
The dealership can reprogram a BCM. HOWEVER, if the BCM came out of a vehicle with factory theft alarm and yours doesn't have it, you are SCREWED. The BCM is keyed to the exact options that were on the car at the factory. If it had theft, it reports that to the PCM. Once it does that, it cannot be undone. You have to replace the PCM!!!!."
This did happen to me
Cherry Auto had the correct BCM same code as well , power locks /no alarm on EBay so i bought it.
The sent me a PCM instead
They didn't have the BCM from the auction but found another and shipped it right out.
But when i installed it, it was obvious it had a alarm, because my lights and horn went crazy.
I sent in my original and had it redone, installed it.
Now it cranked and cranked no start
thought it might be out of gas added some and it started but died, now it wont crank at all.
The problem now is the PCM is not allowing the starter circuit to go to ground to complete the circuit.
So i need to know from the PRO's
Is my PCM toast or can it be re flashed at the dealer or a mach with a drb tool/
And can you give a lingo lesson on what to say to them so i don't look like a moron with a big fat wallet to plunder.
Thanks
Tony

tinner105,
I cant say if you are correct or not in your diagnosis however if you are indeed correct you have just done some of the best troubleshooting I can remember in a long time! Nice Job! Again I cannot speak to the fact that this is indeed your trouble, but to be able to determine that one computer told another computer not to function due to a possible theft issue is absolutely super troubleshooting! Been troubleshooting aircraft for more than 30 years and know full well how confusing and frustrating it can be! I 100% hope that you found your problem, been following your posts but didnt have any real good info to help you, I just wanted to let you know how impressed I am with your tenacity to fix your problem and your troubleshooting,
My hat is off to you tinner105,
Best of luck,
Bob

I've always been mechanically inclined, and not afraid to tear into a problem.
I'm real close to finishing this problem.
I just need one of the Mopar mechanics to chime in and guide me down the correct path.
I did get to do a little wrenching on aircraft motors
nothing new just tearing down the old Pratt& Whitney R2000, 1835's and 985's.
Those old radial engines were something else. Like the old DC3 still flying today.
Well I hope i get an answer soon so i can get this on the road.
Thanks Again

Well I ended up having the PCM rebuilt by the dealer for a pretty penny.
I just got tired of fooling with it and just le t them do it.
Everything fine for now.
Thanks to all that helped me with this problem.
Hopefully no more problems for a while.
Thanks Again

many caravans have this problem and if you let it go your guages and spedo etc wont work. take out the 4 screws that hold on the a/c stuff and unplug it and inspect for a burnt terminal I JUST did one 5 min ago. Clean it up and plug back in or get one from the junkyard
