94 Caravan 3.0L - Battery drains while driving

I pulled the alternator today and it tested out fine. At first it was sputtering and acting weird at low RPMs and going uphill. Then one day the check engine light popped on, the battery meter dropped rapidly, the radio fizzled out and the dash/lights/everything electrical stopped working and the car wouldn't idle without applying pressure to the gas. After it sat a few minutes it started up just fine, drove a few hundred feet and same deal.

Do you have the tools to load test the batt? If it fires up it should be ok. Have you checked for corrosion, check the inline connector on the positive cable near the batt connection. This seems odd. Have to take a look at my mitchell. Report back soon.

All I really have as far as tools is a socket set. I'll check what i can for corrosion.

Reading the fault code that lit up your check engine light would help. If your battery died completely or you disconnected it, the code is gone. If not, cycle the key 3 times from "off" to "on" (not start) leaving it on. Count the check engine light flashes. This is the code. All codes are two digits. For example code 12 would be flash, pause, flash, flash. Multiple codes are divided by longer pauses.

If it dies and you loose all electrics then starts up just fine I would suspect the primary ground connection from the battery to the engine block/chasy or the cables themselves. Check those connections and wiggle the battery cables.

I accidentally left the ignition on so I will grab a charger and recharge the battery, check the codes and ground.

Turned out to be corrosion on the terminals and moisture in the fuel. Thanks for your help!
