I4 or H4

does a configuration of an engine affect the power or horsepower of a car? like I4 or H4, does the configuration of these engines matter but has the same cylinder capacity

Power isn't a real factor between the configs. The real advantage to H4 is lower profile and less inherent vibration.

Sometimes they do, but its minimal. For instance, most I4s have 5 main bearings while most opposing fours have 3 mains. It could be argued that the extra support on the crank helps reliability, but it also saps some friction.

But for the most part, an H4 and an I4 will both make the same basic power and torque if you compare equal parts.

I have heard that inline engines tend to have more torque than other configurations. I don't buy that though as I believe it has more to do with the intake, exhaust, and head design than the piston configuration. So, if someone tells you that, I wouldn't believe them.
