Sounds like the infamous bent tab... Have a look at this thread: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/t405571.html.

this is the first time it has ever happened to my intrigue...but i tried them again a few hours later and they started working normal again...Chances are if the problem happens once it will come back sooner or later. Thanks for the post

Hmm, I don't think it's a bent tab then...the problem wouldn't just go away like that. But an electrical problem would. Maybe a bad park switch... Just cross your fingers and hope it was a one-time thing!

yeah there was a good amount of snow when it happened..but the wipers were not stuck (i made sure to free them)...It was weird how it happened, usually when the wipers go off, they go down, pause, and then make the final push down to the park position. But instead of going all the way down they would pause, and then go back up and stop. I read another post in chevy venture/pontiac montanna forum of the same problem on the cold mornings with snow, but it goes away when the car and/or weather warms up. www.2carpros.com (http://www.2carpros.com) also states the cause as offen being a shorted park switch inside the motor, offen relating to snow and/or cold.

I had the same thing happen last year when there was a lot of snow on the windshield. The next morning when I started it up, the wipers went back to the normal park position. Haven't had it happen since.

I remember reading somewhere water/moisture may get into the wiper motor and freeze causing the wipers to not return to the proper position. I had this happen when I lived in NY one winter. After a day they went back to normal. It is something that appears to be cold related at the least though.

I know the wiper blades stuck up has been detailed on these forums before. I just want to add my own version of the repair. I fixed an Oldsmobile Intrigue with the wiper stuck up problem. I have included pictures and video. Here's how I did it:
