1995 Ford Contour shimmies

I have only had the car a short time. It shimmies at between 40-55 mph. Usually, but not exclusively on hills. It runs pretty good at all other speeds. One thought I had was using the overdrive button, but not sure how or if I should when it shimmies (lurches forward in short pulses). What else could this be if not an overdrive problem?
