I have got a 1/43 Kenwood Porsche 962c decal by Modelers, but I couldn't figure out which year the decal is - 87 or 88? I have attached the photos of the three for comparison:

Modelers decal

87 Le Mans

88 Le Mans

Could anyone help?

well the top one is a 956...for the others, have you checked racingsportscars.com?

I have checked the other two and I believe the colour scheme is correct. So the point is - which year the color scheme is the modelers decal represent? It's like a mix of year of 87 & 88, or maybe this is the 88 LM test version?

well my point was the top one wasn't a 962C so you could eliminate it. racingsportscar.com will be able to help you match year to livery though it will take some searching.

Have a look at the Spark version of the car

http://cgi.ebay.com.hk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230213374869

This photo is the '87 car

Where as this seems to be the '88 car, but taken only recently

Also found this one, the car was restored by these guys (down near the bottom of the page), maybe try contacting them.

I think the decal sheet represents the test version (this one: http://www.mcestoril.pt/le-mans/imagens/1988/kremer91.jpg). If you want to represent the '88 version you have to make minor changes: little "Yokohama" logos above wheel arcs are missing; Le Mans class sticker (the yellow one with a big C1 on it) is wrong in the place Modeler's say; side windows should be in their up side in red, as it is represented in the third drawing; front number ten should be moved a little; red shapes in upper side of front wheel arcs are missing; "sonauto" logos above front light must be "PIAA" ones; "Yokohama" sticker under Porsche badge is a little different in '88 version, and it is placed centred; sand "Hi-Fi" letters should be bigger. I think it is not hard to get the real scheme, you only need a bit of patience.

As advice I would tell you not to think about the '87 version unless you have spare decals for the yellow class stickers.

Hope this helps.

Carlos.

Yes, but decals could be useful for a real 962C. It is only needed making several additions.

Although it will be easier buying a correct decal sheet :D

Always be wary of using as reference photos taken contemporarily. Car owners often times take liberty with things like livery. They also change mechanical specification as well, case in point is the Schupann Porsche 962C TS03 (Nigel Stroud designed carbon monocoque, Max Boxstrom aero). The car's current owner has effectively designed a new nose for the car. So you have to be wary some times and have good historical reference!

Which is why I said it was a recent shot and to contact them. In a restoration, they would hopefully have got as many period photos as possible.

Those shots etc I got from a very quick google search. Something I wish a lot of people would try first.

I have checked all the Kenwood livery between 83-90 Le Mans, only in 87 & 88 the car used the white / red color scheme, so I am sure this must be the 962c. Why Modelers use the 956 instead, I believe this is becasue they also released the very same livery in 1/24, which they used the Tamiya 956 as a base kit. An incorrect combination, but that's how they sell it that time.

I don't think the car shown in the picasa link is the original 87/88 Kenwood 956, as the body shape looks much more like the 90 spec car.

So I think cabarbe is correct - this is the 88 test version, and I will do more research in this direction. Finally, thanks for everyone's help!!
